Ghost Ranch

We've all been to those places that have an unmistakable energy, an essential power originating long before people were aware of their existence. I've felt this in Zion, Sedona, Bryce Canyon, Latir Mesa, Mt. Lincoln, and others. And Ghost Ranch today.

I'm very happy to have finally accompanied my mom on a hike that's very special to her. I grew up surrounded by Georgia O'Keeffe's art. It was really amazing to be able to walk in some of the landscapes that were most inspiring to her.

The color and texture of red, pink, and yellow sandstone, the fragile gypsum and cryptobiotic soil on top of Kitchen Mesa, and the light and air of this place is an essential experience. It was wonderful to be without the time crunch of mountain hikes in the monsoon season. So nice to just wander a bit.
